I don’t have diabetes. I take medications that put me at risk of diabetes, so my mental health counsellor comes with me to my appointments with the nurse and dietitian at the diabetes center. They have taught me about the changes that my meds are making in my body and it makes me feel better knowing that the weight I have gained isn’t my fault.
I have stopped drinking pop with sugar and juice. I eat whole wheat pasta and lots of frozen vegetables. And I walk everywhere now instead of taking the bus, except when it is snowing really hard. I keep going to the diabetes center because they check my weight and my blood pressure and measure my waist and check my lab tests. And they tell me that I am doing a great job!
